The weather has not been great and water temp is still low in most areas. Certainly different to last summer.
We are capturing good information through the web site with only minor issues like multiple entries if “Load a new form” is used when it is not needed.
So far we have 26 kingfish tagged and recorded this season. There are 17 from Collingwood, 6 from Pakawau and 3 from Manukau Harbour.
There were two recaptures reported in 2 days in mid-January by a touring Swedish fly angler in Golden Bay. He was in NZ to fish for trout in the South Island and heard about the kingfish fishing. He caught a total of around 7 fish. Of course he was over the moon and telling the world about it, which is a good thing.
He phoned Milsie as he was leaving Golden Bay, but didn’t get the tag number. He is however going to provide photos of the tagged fish when he gets back to Sweden. He is known to a few guides in the South so I am not doubting the validity of his captures. There are pics on him with kings in Golden Bay on his Facebook page. We assume the area is almost exactly where the tagged fished were recently released. Link to video below.
